Found a Community

Every FSC community started with a few students who wanted to get outside together and decided to build something bigger than a group chat. If that's you, we'll help you turn it into a real community: one that gets your campus outdoors safely, welcomes total beginners, and lasts long after you graduate. When you found a community you’re backed by the full Field Studies Collective network: funding, gear, insurance, training, and a community of other founders and leaders who are actively building their communities.

Why Found a Community

A community becomes an integral part of campus culture and acts as a home base for adventure that outlives and surpasses any single trip or class year.

Build Something that Lasts

A community becomes an integral part of campus culture and acts as a home base for adventure that outlives and surpasses any single trip or class year.

Build Something that Lasts

Founding and running a community is real leadership experience: planning trips, managing a team, and making calls that keep people safe and stoked.

Grow as a Leader

Founding and running a community is real leadership experience: planning trips, managing a team, and making calls that keep people safe and stoked.

Grow as a Leader

You bring the stoke; we bring the framework. Every new community joins a growing network of others doing the same thing, and as that network grows, so does what we can offer the next campus.

01
Guidance & Backing

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, FSC handles the behind-the-scenes work: guidance, resources, support, insurance, so you can focus on what matters: getting people outdoors and building a community that sticks.

02
Certified Leadership

We help your leaders get trained and certified, including fully covered Wilderness First Aid (WFA), so every trip goes out with someone equipped to keep the group safe.

03
Gear to Get Started

Through our Gear Shed initiative, we stock new communities with enough essential gear to outfit students every weekend — so cost is never the reason someone stays home. Your members don't need to own a thing to get outside.

04
Software Platform

We’ve built a custom software platform that aids Community's leadership teams in planning and managing members and logistics to run safer, and more cohesive trips, events, and communities.

05
600+ Pro Deals

As your community grows its leadership team, those leaders gain access to pro deals from outdoor brands, discounted gear for the people organizing and guiding trips. It's a way of supporting the members who take on the work of getting everyone else outdoors. Members also get exclusive access to outdoor discounts.

06
Collaboration Across Schools

No community is alone. FSC communities connect. Sharing trip ideas, swapping what works, and teaming up for joint adventures. When you found a community, you're not building something alone; you're joining a network of students doing the same thing.

07
International Trips

We’re not huge fans of barriers, so we cross borders. Each year the Collective plans  international trips that take members from all communities to other lands to explore, learn, and adventure. It's the kind of experience that turns a community into a lifelong one. Join us as we trek in Asia and learn to paraglide in Bulgaria.
