About Us

Since Fall of 2022

Our Story

Field Studies Club was created at Cal Poly SLO and first hit the trails in the Fall of 2022 with the vision to bring students together, foster friendships, and make memories through the togetherness that the outdoors creates.

Our vision resonated with students and our community quickly grew and within a few years we were running 2-3 trips each weekend with a team of 50 helping out at Cal Poly alone. But at its core, our club stayed the same, a group of adventurers looking for new experiences and friends, good views, and even better stories.

In 2025 the second Field Studies Community planted itself in Corvallis, Oregon. With over 700 members across 2 schools, Field Studies was setup to continue growth. Currently a pending 501(c)(3) the Field Studies Collective manages the communities at each location and provides guidance, leadership and anything else these stoked communities might need to succeed in getting as many students into the outdoors!

We’re still writing this story one excursion and community at a time. Whether you’re a seasoned outdoor expert, or just curious about your place in the outdoor world, there’s always room in our community!

Our Mission

Field Studies Collective empowers the next generation of students and explorers of all experience levels to learn from, and protect the natural world through accessible outdoor adventures. We champion and implement experiential education and aim to cultivate environmental curiosity by nurturing inclusive spaces for connection, curiosity, growth, and community.

Our Vision

Field Studies Collective envisions a future where every student feels a sense of belonging in the outdoors—equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and community to care for the planet.
Through a network of student-led communities and transformative nature-based experiences, the organization cultivates the next generation of environmental leaders, educators, and explorers.
